A meeting of Congress MPs from Haryana was held in New Delhi on Saturday to build a consensus on the new CLP leader for the state where the party is going to form government.

The meeting of MPs,coming a day after CLP authorized Congress President Sonia Gandhi to choose its leader, was held at the residence of AICC observer for Haryana Mohsina Kidwai in which all nine MPs of the party from the state participated.

It is not immediately known whose name the MPs recommended for leadership in the state.

Meanwhile, the AICC observers submitted their report and feed back of the CLP meeting, held at Chandigarh on Friday,to Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi.

Congress has got 40 seats in the 90-member state assembly this time, which is six short of the majority. The party got the support of all the seven Independents and yesterday staked claim to form government amid the suspense whether incumbent chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will get another term.

Among other strong contenders for the CM’s post are union minister Kumari Selja and party MLA Kiran Chaudhary.
