The accused had shared “blasphemous” pictures and videos with the intention to outrage religious feelings of Muslims, the court in Pakistan’s Punjab province said.
The judges said the 22-year-old was sentenced to death for creating photos and videos containing derogatory words about Prophet Muhammad and his wives, and the 17-year-old was punished for sharing the content, as per the BBC report.
The complaint was filed by the country’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore in 2022, with the plaintiff alleging he had received the photos and videos from three different mobile numbers. The FIA had also examined the complainant’s phone for confirmation of the existence of the obscene material.
The BBC quoted the defence lawyers as saying that the two students had been “trapped in a false case”, while the father of the youth sentenced to death said that they would file an appeal in the Lahore High Court.
