Alia Bhatt’s production house lauds Dhurandhar; cine body pleads with PM Modi to help lift ban on Ranveer Singh’s film in Middle East

The Producers Association of India has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help reverse the ban on Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar in the Middle-East.

DhurandharFilm body requests PM Modi to help lift ban on Dhurandhar in the Middle-East.

Director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has been flying high since its release , and its worldwide collection speaks for itself. However, one major market has remained unaffected by the film’s appeal: the Middle East. The film has been banned in several countries across the region, prompting the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) to intervene. The association has also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and address the ban.

Even though Dhurandhar has earned more than Rs 1200 crore worldwide, the makers of the film feel that the Middle East is an untapped market. Hence the Producers Association has requested PM Modi to intervene, arguing that the ban is against the “freedom of expression”. The subject of the letter was “Appeal to intervene in the matter of banning of the film ‘Dhurandhar’ by the UAE and other Middle Eastern countries.”

It read, “Respected Sir, We earnestly appeal to your kind self to intervene regarding the unilateral and uncalled-for ban imposed on the film ‘Dhurandhar’ by the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Our member producer has made this film and has released the same after getting certification by the Central Board of Film Certification, and the ban imposed by the above countries is a suppression of the freedom of expression of our member, as the film has emerged as one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema.”

The letter further read, “We as representatives of the largest and oldest Producers’ Association, IMPPA, request you earnestly with folded hands to kindly intervene, as the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia are India-friendly countries, and we conduct regular business with them across multiple sectors.” They concluded the letter by saying that they hope “freedom of expression” is respected and that the ban is “evoked at the earliest.”

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s production house Eternal Sunshine Productions publicly expressed its appreciation for Dhurandhar. In a post on Instagram, they wrote:, “It’s the voice of today’s India. It’s the choice of today’s India. It’s based on a chapter in history. And now it’s the number one chapter in India’s cinema history. Cheers to Dhurandhar. And three cheers to the entire team. You not only created waves. You brought the high tide back to the theatres. If this is what part one did in winter, imagine what part two will bring in spring.”

This also comes after Alia faced some flak for not speaking about Dhurandhar since its release. Many fans were shocked as the two have often talked about their camaraderie and they have shared screen space in films like Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. During a recent interview with Vogue, Alia only spoke about Gully Boy and the night it screened at the Berlin International Film Festival.

She said, “That evening was the premiere, and Gully Boy got a lot of love.” Ranveer headlined the movie; he was the Gully Boy. He was just outstanding; like, even the music and the rap, till today, I think, have a solid vibe.” However, she didn’t mention anything about Dhurandhar or the film’s success.
