Yes we are global ma’am,well almost. Maybe not fully the way they told you so,but we are. In fact a Chinese admiral sailing the Malabar coast around the time when Vasco was making himself a pest there said so many centuries ago. This time around we are laying our claim to fame because we have now decided that no one will go hungry or without work. My city sister Ela ben showed you so and Soniaji will tell you how she will do it.

Of course back home my friend Francine Frankel must have briefed you on how nothing ever succeeds in India and so right she is. But then what she didn’t tell you is that nothing ever also fails in India and so we will muddle and bungle along until we do it.

Then the adivasi girls will largely be in school and having got across the cantankerous phase we would have learnt how good lectures can be given in India and good Phds produced by universities which had made global grades but fell down after everybody who has never produced a Phd reformed the system. Then we will really get going and the G8 will be also-rans. At present you are seeing only a trailer.

We will really respond when somebody tells us that nuclear weaponisation is a disaster. We will send h(er)im a free copy of My Experiments With Truth and Nehru Chacha and Rajiv Bhaiyya’s speeches and say we thought of all this before but we will make you do it and then will do it together. People like me would have finally succeeded in convincing others that they shouldn’t be luddites because technology is the flip side of removing poverty and social progress and nuclear power would be a reality. We will make the one of a kind fast breeder reactor and go the thorium route because that is the only sure guarantee that our educated adivasi girl and the young ones we train will get the energy we need. It’s tough but he said if the truth is on your side then your tormentors will have to go even if they wrongly believe that the sun never sets on them.

Actually we will go beyond the old man,for that is the way he and our leaders thought we would. We will also trade which he did not like even if he was a Porbandar bania. The old man,the one with the specs and the mocking eyes, kept on insisting that communities matter, nature is not to be violated and vandalised, the small can be efficient and effective, networking is the name of the game and be good as that’s the only way to be. Hey,he thought of all this before the twenty-first century nobles, but he was against trade. Kamal Nath made the point that for all of us,that there is enough for everyone’s need but not for greed.

Having done so we will stand behind the PM in calling in the world’s trade ministers and nudging the WTO to do the right thing. For one thing our agriculture needs it and you have to grow up. I can’t say any more because those specs and mocking eyes and that handwriting later printed in Young India keep on piercing. But honestly ma’am,we are almost a global power and history will not come to an end because its our turn now and I hope not many moons away those eyes will not mock any more. How many moons away? As she sang when I went to college in your country, the answer my friend is blowing in the wind.
