MISUSING VIVEKANANDA
An article in the CPIs New Age accuses Sangh Parivar outfits of twisting Swami Vivekanandas writings and speeches to serve their interests. It talks about how a large portrait of Vivekananda adorned the stage from where Narendra Modi dared the prime minister to a debate on Independence Day. The challenge itself was not unexpected,but what hurt the viewers was getting Vivekananda in the unholy alliance. However,the presence of Swamiji instead symbolised the contrast, it says,and then quotes Vivekanands Chicago Address where he had denounced sectarianism,bigotry and fanaticism and had argued they have filled the earth with violence,drenched it often and often with human blood,destroyed civilisations and put whole nations in despair.
