The Tripura police have arrested the driver of a container truck allegedly with 98 kg of cannabis that he was transporting to Assam. Satindra Tripura (33), who was arrested with the drug at Churaibari on the Assam border on Saturday, was produced before a local court on Sunday. “We have sought his custody. But the court is yet to give its order,” said Samaresh Das, officer in charge of the Churaibari police station. The police said they stopped the container truck with the registration number AS-01NC 6798 and seized 49 packets of cannabis covered with chaff after receiving secret information about the consignment. They have also seized the truck. “Each packet weighs 2 kg. The market price of the consignment is expected to be Rs 15 lakh. We arrested the driver on Saturday and charged him under the NDPS Act,” said Dharmanagar Subdivisional Police Officer Debasish Saha after visiting the spot.
