The criminals broke into the house and looted cash and gold jewellery from the almirahs. (Representational photo) A gang of six to seven people broke into two houses and escaped with nearly Rs 10,000 in cash and some gold jewellery items at Melagarh in Sepahijala district Friday.
Two brothers, Haradhan Das, 45, and Jiban Das, 43, alleged that the gang broke into their houses by breaking grills and doors and threatened to kill them if they did not cooperate with them. The criminals looted the cash and gold jewellery from the almirahs.
The police have registered a case against unidentified miscreants under Section 452 (house trespass), 382 (theft), and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
“Our preliminary investigation revealed that the gang members were not from the same locality. We have registered a case and started our investigation,” said Jyotisman Das Chowdhury, the assistant inspector general of police.
