  • City activist Qaneez Sukhrani, for the fine example set, for the disabled soldiers in Operation Vijay at Kargil. She and her husband Sanjay, donated Rs 25,000, the highest individual contribution so far. Others followed. Former chief of naval staff Admiral Jayant Nadkarni walked in unannounced at The Indian Express office to hand over a cheque for Rs 10,000. More arrived in twos and threes and in groups to pitch in. Looks like the Punekars heart beats strongly for the jawans.
  • The noble-minded bride and the bridegroom. Meet Mrunal Sonawane and Gopal Kamble wedded to a cause. They tied the knot and the usual gifts of money followed. But instead of using it up, the couple went ahead and donated the entire sum of Rs 19,500 to the Kargil Disabled Soldiers8217; Fund.
  • Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor. He and his octroi collection squad made the top shops in the city cough up the tax. The defaulters included Shagun, Rangoli, Wama, Hi-Fashion, Peshwai Creation, Kasat creation and Jaihind Collections.
