
CHANDIGARH, Oct 4: The prize distribution function for the World Wildlife Fund-sponsored competitions held between Oct 1 to Oct 5 _ marked as the Habitat Week, was held in the city on Tuesday. Advisor to UT Administrator Vineet Rai gave away the prizes. Apart from a cycle rally on Sunday, the WWF, in association with Hindi daily Amar Ujala, had organised an on the spot Painting Competition on Gandhi Jayanthi.
In Category I, the winners were Taranapreet, Sarina Thakur, Meghna Dewan, Astha Sharma and Swarita Bhardwaj, while in Category II, Rasleen Ahluwalia, Manasavi Bhardwaj, Ananaya Sabbarwal, Palak Jain and Sumiti Jain were the winners.
The Category III winners of the painting competition were Gurpreet Singh, Manpal Singh, Sushil Kornamab, Amarinder Singha and Tanushree while Special Prizes went to Aarzoo Ahuja, Jugad Singh, Eknoor and Anuvrat Brar. The Sunday cycle race for the environment saw Navpreet Singh, Maninder Singh, Sandeep Malik, Ajay Kalra and Swarit Sharma emerge as winners.
Hansraj students stage play
Panchkula: Junior section students of Hansraj Public School in Sector 6 celebrated Wildlife Week by presenting an entertaining and meaningful play, Cry of the Wild, to spread the message of compassion for animals. From a basic idea suggested by their teachers, students evolved the script themselves and impressed the audience.
