Defeat for India, humiliation for fan
CHENNAI: The Indian cricket team8217;s failure brought a 25-year-old sand quarry worker, Kamachi of Manaparai town in Tiruchirapalli District only ignominy.
He had to shave off half of his head, moustache and beard: all because India suffered bad defeats at the hands of South Africa and then Zimbabwe in the World Cup.
Kamachi had faith in the Indian cricket team. He wagered a bet was that if the team loses, he would undergo the humilation of going in a procession on the main throughfare in the town half shaven. Well, he did, much to the amusement of one and all.
The loss against Zimbabwe also left many cricket-crazy children in tears.
Visa power? Oh, forget it!
BANGALORE: A city-based young engineer, who won the LG Electronics slogan contest winning a free trip to London to witness the World Cup, was denied visa by the British Deputy High Commission office at Chennai.
TR Ashwath was offered all paid expenses trip to London to witness a cricket match featuring India. The application was rejected despite LG Electoronics and his employer standing guarantee under the pretext that his financial background was not sound. In the second interview he was informed that he is young, single and a man of modest income and hence not satisfied that he was genuinely seeking entry only for the period and purpose and that he will leave UK on completion of proposed period of visit.
