AMBALA, Dec 4: Crushing of sugarcane will resume from tomorrow at the Naraingarh sugar mill following a compromise between the management and the striking workers on the intervention of the district administration yesterday evening. The workers called off their 14-day hunger strike as their demands of taking back retrenched workers, regularisation of ad hoc workers and promotion of eligible workers were accepted. But it would be up to the the management to take back the workers against whom police cases were registered.
The sugarcane growers had also joined hands with the workers since they too were not happy with the management, who has not made payments running into lakhs of rupees.
Both the workers and growers have been alleging that if the district administration had intervened earlier, the strike and road blockades could have been easily avoided. They also alleged that the administration had taken a soft approach towards the management.
