With Nitish away, BJP takes credit for relief

While Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is bearing the brunt of Opposition ire for staying away from Bihar at a time when the state is facing one of its worst floods, coalition partner BJP is busy patting its own back for dealing with the crisis efficiently in the absence of Kumar.

State BJP leaders are actively spreading the message that flood-hit Patna received little relief when the Chief Minister was in town but once Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi of the BJP took charge, the water was pumped out in no time. For the last one week, low-lying areas of Patna have witnessed water logging that has refused to go away despite the best efforts of the municipal corporation.

“While Nitishjee is building the atmosphere for a better Bihar in the international arena, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi is successfully handling the flood crisis in the state with the help of other ministers,” is what BJP spokesman Vinod Narayan Jha said for the record.

Meanwhile, the Opposition has launched a scathing attack on the Chief Minister for being absent while people of the state suffered. Even JD (U) leaders feel much political damage has happened.

Interestingly the flood situation was under control when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar left last week for Mauritius on a week-long goodwill tour. However with rains lashing the state incessantly, the situation took a turn for the worse, giving the BJP ministers an opportunity to take credit.
