With scores of followers of Dr B R Ambedkar expected to throng Dadar’s Chaitya Bhoomi on Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set up waterproof residential pavilions on 1 lakh square feet area at Shivaji Park, set up control rooms and medical camps and also made provision for water and sanitation for the convenience of those who will be attending the event on December 6. According to senior officials, over 8,000 civic staffers will be working round the clock on the day of the event.
Situated at Dadar’s Chowpatty, Chaitya Bhoomi serves as a resting place for B. R. Ambedkar where every year on December 6, scores of his followers congregate to pay their respects to him.
Ahead of the 69th Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the BMC has made an array of arrangements to ensure adequate facilities for the followers who travel across the country to arrive at Shivaji Park.
To cater to the large influx of followers, the civic body on Wednesday said residential pavilions have been erected over an area spanning 1 lakh square feet at the Shivaji Park ground while a 30,000 square metre area has been covered in dust-proof blanket to prevent suspension of mud. The civic body has also installed 10 LED screens within the residential area, wherein 527 workers will be deployed in one session to maintain cleanliness in the premises. For the followers, the BMC has made provisions for at least 150 mobile toilets and 254 toilets at the ground as well as pink toilets for women. This year, the civic body has deployed 585 skilled manpower for providing medical services.
In a bid to maintain security, senior BMC officials said CCTV cameras, metal detectors, bag scanners, control room as well as observation towers have been set up across the ground.
Officials added the programme at Chaityabhoomi will be live-streamed on big screens as well as on social media through the official BMC handles.
