Pope John Paul8217;s last will and testament indicated that in 2000 he was tormented over whether he should resign after leading the Roman Catholic Church into the new millennium.

In the will, written over 20 years and made public on Thursday, he also hints that he considered the possibility of a funeral in Poland. 8216;8216;I hope He God helps me understand until what moment I have to continue in this service to which he called me on October 16, 1978,8221; he said.

The Pope adds he was ready to die anytime. Death appeared to be ever present in his mind after a failed assassination attempt on him in 1981. The will asks that all his personal notes be burned.

In the last section, he thanks the Church, other religions, particularly the Jews, for support during his pontificate. 8212;Reuters
