
West Zone added another glorious chapter in their record books by regaining the Duleep Trophy as their last match against East Zone ended in a draw at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.
The match, which seemed headed towards a draw with almost the entire third day8217;s play washed out, did provide some excitement on the last day with as many as 14 wickets tumbling.
Resuming at their overnight score of three for no loss in reply to West Zone8217;s first innings total of 529 for six declared, East Zone were bundled out for a paltry 162 before the tea break.
Paceman Irfan Pathan Jr 4/43 and spinner Ramesh Powar 6/35 were the main destroyers on a track which deteriorated due to heavy rains on Wednesday night.

Central win
Jaipur: CENTRAL Zone defeated South Zone by two wickets on the final day of their four-day Duleep Trophy match here today. Central, who had lost the previous three league encounters, consoled themsleves with the lone victory after spinner Jyoti Yadav claimed three wickets for only 11 runs.
After posting a 48-run first innings lead, South resumed at the overnight score of 99 for two, but were bundled out for 201 with 16 balls remaining.
Central were set a target of 250 runs to win the match, which they achieved losing eight wickets. Yadav performed brilliantly with the bat as he top-scored with 69 149 minutes, 7X4, ably supported by skipper Gagan Khoda who hit 38 73 minutes, 4X4.
