It seemed a different place on Tuesday, the last day of competitions of the Fourth National Games. No crowd of participants, no repeated announcements over the public address system, no long queues to get food and what’s more, almost no entry on the complaint register of the Chief Administrator. It didn’t look like a village today.
Many participants had left for home, and the rest were waiting for their discipline to get over today. After Monday night’s bash — a musical nite followed by dinner there was nothing to complain about as far as the participants were concerned at the Koramangala Games Village.
It was now the turn of team coaches and managers to rush to the office of the Chief Administrator or the reception committee for getting their Games’ kit. Many players had still to receive it but the team officials, who were supposed to get the kit, were busy looking for the office of Videocon, the sponsors of the Games.
It was smooth going at the police stations in the Village as not a single complaint has been registered for the duration of the Games. Even the staff of the medical centre, which had been treating up to 550 patients daily, looked relaxed today morning.
One stopped for a chat with some players from Manipur, hosts of the next National Games, as they were leaving for the railway station. “In the beginning, there were some problems like water shortage, mosquito menace and non-availability of fans, but all the players had got used to it,” said a Manipur player. His teammate chipped in: “Though I did not win a medal, I am taking back sweet memories. I hope when we host the Games, we succeed where others failed.” So do we.
