World Music Event East is east and west is west and neer the twain shall meet went the famous Rudyard Kipling song. Born in Mumbai,the Nobel laureate was essentially part of both cultures,having been born to expatriates and partly raised in India. And todays globalised scenario has boundaries seeming to melt. Beyond Kipling celebrates the musical synergy between an Indian composer and Brazilian pianist along with other musicians playing instruments as varied as tabla,djembe,violin,mridangam and Slide Veena. These include Chitravina Ravikiran,who is a child prodigy whose musical gift was discovered at the age of two. This event is based on his unique concept of Melharmony which is a novel approach to composition creating harmony with an emphasis on melodic rules. He is joined by Jovino Santos Neto,a thrice Latin Grammy nominee,master pianist,composer and arranger who is ranked amongst the leading Brazilian musicians in the world today and Fazal Qureshi,whose unique style that is distinguished for its fine sense of rhythm,versatility and eloquence. The others are Charumathi Raghuraman and Anand Anantha Krishnan. Stories In A Song by Shubha Mudgal NCPA staged a English - Hindi play of two acts on August 25. Termed Stories In A Song- A Musical Collage Of Theatre,Literature And History,it tells stories of musical forms like kajri,thumri,dadra,khayal,remixes and more with the aid of theatre. It comprisesSongs Of The Nuns,Gandhiji And The Tawaifs Of Benares,Chandni Begum,Bahadur Ladki,Hindustani Airs,Whose Music Is It? and Kajri Akhada. Conceived by Shubha Mudgal,it has research by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan,who have also selected and composed the music. Shubrajyoti Barat,Gopal Tiwari,Ketki Thatte,Namit Das,Santosh Tiwari,Pia Sukanya,Mansi Multani,Nishi Doshi,Trupti Khamkar,Makrand Deshpande,Shailesh Hejmadi,Bhupinder Shahi,Nandakumar,Gagan Riar,Anushree Shukla,Amit Ojha and Saurabh Nayyar are the performers of this Arpana & Underscore Records Production.
