Will question Maran at right time: CBI

Terming the allegations levelled by former Aircel CEO C Sivasankaran as serious, the CBI said it would take the case to its logical conclusion.

Terming the allegations levelled by former Aircel CEO C Sivasankaran as serious, the CBI on Tuesday said it would take the case to its logical conclusion.

The agency said it would approach DMK MP and Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran, currently at the centre of a controversy,at the right time to seek his clarification on various issues. Sivasankaran, who heads the Siva group, had said in a statement to the CBI on Monday that he was arm-twisted by Maran to sell his 74 stakes in Aircel to the Maxis group. Siva was keen to retain at least 51 per cent of his stakes but was asked to sell his entire stake and quit. He alleged that there was no option for him, said a CBI official.

Sivasankaran has also alleged that Marans brother and SUN Network CEO Kalanidhi Maran played an important role and he was in regular touch with him.

Sources indicated Maran might soon be called for examination. We will approach Maran at the right time. But we would first like to verify Sivas statements. We are also looking at the objections raised by Maran through media reports in which he had said Siva is not an ordinary person and he was looking for a buyer for his company Aircel as early as 2004, said a CBI official.

The agency said Sivasankaran had provided details of merchant bankers, lawyers and attorney who were part of the Aircel-Maxis deal. We will seek their opinions and statements, said the official.

Meanwhile, the agency said it had sent a fact report to the Prime Ministers Office and DoPT with details on Marans case.
