US president Barack Obama has expressed deep concern over the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan,Washingtons increasingly besieged ally in the campaign against terrorism.

Obviously,we are deeply concerned, Obama told reporters as he met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Saying the details are still coming in so I dont want to be too specific,Obama made a general statement on the joint US-British efforts to keep terrorism at bay.

Both Great Britain and the United States share a deep interest in ensuring that neither Afghanistan or Pakistan are safe havens for terrorist activity, Obama said.

He said the truth is that the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated even though Washington and London have cooperated well to improve conditions as the first and second biggest foreign troop contributors there.

Meanwhile,US Vice-President Joe Biden will be travelling to Brussels next week to meet his NATO allies for holding consultation with them on Afghanistan and Pakistan, the White House announced on Wednesday.

A White House statement in this regard was issued after the terror attack on the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. However,it is unclear if both could be linked.

The purpose of his trip is to consult with allies on Afghanistan and Pakistan and to ensure that their views help inform the strategic review ordered by President Obama, the statement said. The Vice-President also will meet NATOs Secretary General, senior leaders of the European Union and officials of the Belgian Government, it said.

Pakistan on Wednesday briefed visiting FBI chief Robert Mueller on its probe into the Mumbai terror attacks and said it was awaiting New Delhis response to its 30 questions, seeking more information on the incident.

TV channels also quoted official sources as saying that Malik had shared information with Mueller about involvement of a foreign hand in suicide bombings and subversive activities in Pakistan, including Wednesdays attack in Lahore.

Mueller is heading a team, which has held meetings in India and would assist Pakistani investigators in the probe by providing additional inputs.
