Vodafone Essar soft-launches 3G

MUMBAI: Vodafone Essar will spend around 500 million on networks to roll out 3G services,which it plans to launch commercially by next March. The company did a soft launch of the third-generation 3G services here. Reliance,BSNL and MTNL are already offering 3G services. We will go for good coverage and will launch 3G city by city in the first quarter of the next year, Vodafone MD amp; and Chief Executive Marten Pieters said.

TVS Motor Q2 net doubles

MUMBAI: TVS Motor Co on Thursday said second-quarter net profit more than doubled on higher sales and lower costs. The product mix was better and the fixed costs as a percentage was lower, H S Goindi,president,marketing. The company reported a net profit of Rs 54.78 crore in July-Sept,compared with Rs 24.55 crore a year ago.

Toyota recalling 1.5 million cars

Tokyo: Car maker Toyota will call back about 750,000 cars in North America,and 599,000 cars in Japan,mostly models made from 2004 to 2006. About 140,000 cars in the rest of Asia and Australia,and 50,000 cars in Europe,are also being recalled. This is a step toward increasing quality, a Toyota spokesman in Tokyo,Paul Nolasco,said on Thursday.

ESSAR Hypermat to sell steel online

Chandigarh: Essar Group8217;s retail arm Essar Hypermart on Thursday said it would sell steel online by current fiscal-end,which will contribute 10-15 per cent of its total sales. Besides,the company may hive off its retail operations after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax GST.
