BAGHDAD: Hundreds of people converged on Baghdads Liberation Square Friday for an anti-government demonstration despite a vehicle ban. The Baghdad protest was one of many taking place across the country.

SANAA: Soldiers opened fire at anti-government protesters Friday in Yemen,killing four people. Witnesses said the shootings in the town of Harf Sofyan occurred as soldiers dispersed thousands who took to the main street.

CAIRO: Egypts PM-designate vowed Friday before thousands of demonstrators here that he would try to meet their demands. Essam Sharaf was picked by the military on Thursday to replace Ahmed Shafiq as prime minister.
