The meetings of the China Study Group,a high-level grouping of key bureaucrats and Intelligence chiefs that suggests policies India should adopt vis-à-vis China, are never held under public gaze. So last week, when the news of an impending meeting was out,the government promptly decided to postpone it for some other time. But for some reason it did not disclose its decision till about a few hours before the meeting was supposed to be held. The meeting continued to find space on the engagements list of the participants even on the day of the meeting. A senior officer confided that the meeting had to be put off only because the media had come to know of it. It will now be held silently away from media glare as has always been the case.
