O’Romeo trailer: Shahid Kapoor-starrer O’Romeo dropped its trailer on Wednesday and it appears to be Vishal Bhardwaj’s take on a Western, but set in the streets of Mumbai. Much like many other films in the current landscape, O’Romeo tries to shock its viewers with excessive bloodshed in the three-minute trailer as it introduces its characters. Shahid is introduced as a dreaded gangster, and Triptii Dimri appears to be playing a damsel in distress who seeks his help but the tables are turned when he falls in love with her.

The trailer also features Avinash Tiwary who seems to be wearing a matador costume and looks like the villain here. Disha Patani also makes an appearance in a dance number, and Nana Patekar and Farida Jalal seem to have the meatier parts here. Vikrant Massey is not a part of the trailer but we are told towards the end that he only has a special appearance in the film.

This is the fourth collaboration between Shahid and Vishal after Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon. It has been rumoured that the film is based on the story of Hussain Ustara from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi.

Vishal’s last film, Khufiya, released on Netflix, and in the same year, he also dropped his debut OTT series, Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley, on SonyLIV. In fact, Vishal hasn’t had a theatrical release since 2018’s Pataakha, which starred Radhika Madan and Sanya Malhotra. Vishal is best known for his films in the early 2000s which include Maqbool, Omkara. In the later years, Vishal’s films like Kaminey, Haider, 7 Khoon Maaf were widely appreciated.

For Shahid, a lot is riding on O’Romeo as he hasn’t had a massive theatrical hit since 2019’s Kabir Singh, which made Rs 280 crore in India. Last year, he had one theatrical release, Deva, which made Rs 34 crore in India during its lifetime, as per Sacnilk. In the year before that, he was seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya with Kriti Sanon, which made Rs 85 crore during its lifetime. His 2023 film, Bloody Daddy, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar released directly on streaming, and his 2022 release Jersey came out in theatres after many delays. The film barely made Rs 21 crore in India.

O’Romeo releases on February 13, and it will clash against Bejoy Nambiar’s Tu Yaa Main, which stars Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav.
