Two killed,four hurt in group clash

Two persons were shot dead and four were injured when a quarrel between two groups of Muslims turned violent in Tiruvarur district.

Two persons were shot dead and four were injured when a quarrel between two groups of Muslims turned violent in Tiruvarur district late Sunday night.

The police said,there are about 10 Muslim families in the area of which only one belonged to the organisation Tamil Nadu Touheed Jamat TNTJ. It is said that this family was not allowed to offer prayers at the mosque by the community leaders. As they lacked support,the family brought TNTJ members from outside.

On Sunday,local Jamat leaders confronted outsiders and the family. The police said a TNTJ member took out a gun and shot at the crowd,killing Mohammed Ismail,55,and Hakeem Mohammed,60,two Jamat leaders. The shooter,one Mohammed,fled the scene.
