TomTom launches car navigation products in India

8220;India is going through a tremendous growth. The series of new navigation systems that we are introducing today are specifically designed for the Indian market,8221; TomTom India Managing Director Jocelyn Vigreux said.

The company is planning to bring in 8220;some amount8221; of its engineering activities in India in future as it aims for huge growth in next year,he added.

8220;We are also hiring aggressively. We will have 400 people by the end of this year,8221; Vigreux said.

The company today rolled three new products 8212; Via 100,Via 120 and Via 125 8212; that will be available from next month with starting price of Rs 15,000 for retail customers.

These will be sold through leading retailers such as Reliance Digital,Reliance Autozone and Carnation,besides about 70 car accessories outlets in the country.

The products will cover 5,000 cities and towns across the country and the voice service will include 11 local languages.

The company will source the hardware from China.

When asked if the company will provide navigation systems to vehicle makers,Vigreux said: 8220;At this point of time,we are talking to a number of global and regional original equipment manufacturers. However,we cannot say anything now8221;.

Some of the major global customers of the firm include Toyota,Renault,Fiat and Mazda,while non-automotive clients comprise Google and BlackBerry.

The 1.5 billion euro firm is present in 80 nations worldwide with 200 offices. It has an employee strength of about 3,500 people.
