Time to take victory lap, says Uddhav

The civic polls were being viewed as the biggest challenge to Uddhav, who has faced much criticism.

With the Sena-BJP-RPI set to retain power in the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation,a confident Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray seems to have silenced detractors, within and outside his party, for now.

Though Sena lost six seats in Mumbai this time as compared to 2007,the newly formed alliance has helped the saffron alliance win 105 seats in the 227-member civic body. In Thane as well,Sena will be able to come to power as they have emerged as the largest combine in the 130-seat civic body.

The civic polls were being viewed as the biggest challenge to Uddhav, who has faced much criticism. Sena chief Bal Thackeray has often come out in his support, saying he was doing excellent work.

Uddhav launched the election campaign with a we did it slogan which was attacked by the opposition parties. Everyone had mocked him for claiming that they had achieved many things in Mumbai by pointing out that the roads were pothole-ridden,there was largescale corruption, hospitals and gardens needed more attention.

The pressure on Uddhav to ensure a win increased after their dismal performance in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections two years ago.

Addressing a press conference with wife Rashmi, son and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya and younger son Tejas,Uddhav repeated the slogan. People have said whatever they wanted to but I have achieved it. Why should we talk about other things now,it is time to take a lap of success in the city, said Uddhav,in a jovial mood.
