Dengue district The states highest revenue-generating district,Gurgaon,has also reported the highest number of dengue cases for one more season. Considered the urban hub of Haryana,Gurgaon has had over 325 reported cases of dengue so far,with one patient dying of the disease. Gurgaon has now been top of the dengue list for three successive years. In 2010,for instance,600 of the state's 833 dengue cases had been reported from this district,with 16 deaths. This years 325 are out of a statewide total of 415. The state government has announced preventive and curative measures. clean chit & after After IAS officer Ashok Khemka questioned the land deals between Robert Vadra and DLF Universal Limited,the deals were cleared by the state government. Khemka has since indicated that he would contest the claims. Khemka,who had asked the deputy commissioners of Gurgaon,Palwal,Mewat and Faridabad to probe all land deals involving Vadra,was subsequently transferred from the post of director general,Consolidation of Land Holdings,and is now with the Haryana Seeds Warehousing Corporation. The four DCs cleared the deals in a report they submitted to the state government. Helpline for women The state police,under criticism from human and child rights activists,various organisations and the media for repeated incidents of sexual assault on women and minor girls,has gone into damage control. Two days before retiring as DGP,R S Dalal launched a helpline (1091) for redress of complaints by women in distress. All district police chiefs opened the helpline. In the first two days since the launch,not one woman has called up the helpline. Wedding restriction Khap panchayats,known for making their own laws,have now announced a ban on weddings at night. The reason they give is that guests get drunk and get involved in accidents while driving home. As many as 50 khap panchayats,which met in Rohtak lasr week,announced this joint decision as their solution to the menace of accidents. About a fortnight ago,khap leaders had to retract from statements that the marriageable age should be reduced from 18 to 16 to curb increasing incidents of rape in the state.
