An Army-DRDO team successfully test fired the Brahmos Block II land attack cruise missile at the Pokhran test range on Sunday. A DRDO spokesperson said the missile had hit the bulls eye and achieved all mission parameters.
This was the third test of the missile this year and the first one to be decisively declared a success by the DRDO. While in the first test the missile failed to hit its target, the results of the second test were not made public. The Army had refused to accept the Block II version of the missile till it proved itself and had insisted on a third trial.
The launch was witnessed by Lt General A S Sekhon DGMO ,Lt Gen K R Rao,Commandant School of Artillery and Maj General V K Tiwari ADG Artillery. The requirement of the Army for the land attack version with Block-II advanced seeker software with target discriminating capabilities has been fully met and this version is ready for induction, a DRDO statement said.
