Ill rate the decade gone by as one of the best of my life. It was memorable not just as a player but also as a coach and organiser. The highlight would obviously be winning the All England title of 2001.
I decided to start coaching beginners in 2004 and it has been a very good journey. It was also heartening that India could organise big events through the last decade. We hosted the national championships here in Hyderabad in 2003-4,then the Asian Challenger, the Asian badminton championship and finally the world championships.

There havent been too many lows, but quite a few losses that have hurt. On the other hand,Ive picked pretty much all the awards,so recognition has come my way. If I had to re-do things and live my life all over again,Id do it the same way.
The sport has seen many changes. The game was very amateurish, but now you see money coming in and with that professionalism. The change in the points format is the most significant. We also have the Super Series and the world championship that has become an annual affair.
As coach,Im still learning. The Olympics was very good, and though Saina Nehwal came to the forefront in Beijing, she also had a very good chance to win a medal. That will remain a regret.

In India, theres a big improvement in both the standard and the numbers that are taking it up. The future looks even better. Players are travelling more and gaining exposure at the right time. Sainas role in raising interest in badminton is tremendous. The Indian team now believes it can beat anyone.
Im still the person I was. Yes,I use the cell-phone more. For someone who resisted that gadget in the beginning,I do talk a lot on it. 2020 is far away, and Im still startled at how the last decade went by so quickly. I hope to be coaching and playing occasionally. I also want to see India as the top badminton playing nation. On top of the shuttle world.
