In his second innings at the helm, the Prime Minister hasnt missed any opportunity to remind his ministers and officials that he means business in the first 100 days. Ask Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who had to call an emergency meeting after the PM revised the targets the Power Ministry had proposed for itself. In its 100-day plan submitted to the PMO,the ministry had offered to increase electricity generation capacity by about 3,000 MW in the next three months. Considering that it was only a little less than what it had achieved in the entire previous year, the ministry thought the target was ambitious enough to make the PM happy. However, the officials were shocked to learn that PMO had revised the target to 5,653 MW and told the ministry that this was completely achievable and it must add this much capacity in 100 days. A harried Shinde called an emergency meeting to communicate the new target to officials and told them there was no choice but to abide by it.
