Director Saamy is popularly known as Mrigam fame Saamy. Whether the film gave him fame or notoriety is debatable indeed. Mrigam was more noted for the slap that Saamy planted on actress Padmapriyas cheeks on the sets in public,than for its theme and treatment. Saamy is once again in the midst of a controversy. His recently-released film Sindhu Samaveli has been facing the ire of certain sections of people in Tamil Nadu. The film,which is getting mixed reviews,tells the story of the illicit relationship that an elderly man has with his daughter-in-law. Irked by the theme and levelling accusations that the film could cause a jolt to social values,people have started protesting against the movie. Saamys house in Chennai was attacked and ransacked by unidentified miscreants. The director has filed a complaint with the KK Nagar Police Station in Chennai. Sindhu Samaveli has Harish Kalyan,Ghajini and Anakha in key roles. Marathi filmmaker to make a movie with blind cast Marathi filmmaker Swagat Thorat,who created a record of sorts by having 88 visually- impaired artistes perform on stage,is now working on a movie,casting 10 such performers,who are playing normal people. The film is still in the process..We have not even decided its title. It will be ready in the next six-eight months. The lead roles are also enacted by two visually challenged artists. They are playing the role of normal people who are blessed with proper eye sight, Thorat,who was in Panaji,Goa,for the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) 2010,said. It will be a short,small-budget Marathi film based on fiction. Right now we are rehearsing for it, said the Mumbai-based filmmaker and Editor of a fortnightly in Braille. Thorat had performed with 88 visually challenged students from Pune School for Blind in 1998 in a play titled Swatantryachi Yashogatha,which won much acclaim. Years later,he entered the Guinness Book of World Records by performing renowned Marathi writer P L Deshpandes Teen Paishancha Tamasha on stage with 44 blind artists. If they can perform live on stage why cant they act before camera?, Thorat said without revealing the storyline of the film. On the movie budget he said,It will cost some lakhs. But what is important for me is the satisfaction that I am producing something which is unique and giving a platform to visually challenged people. Thorat said his association with the visually challenged dates back to 1993 and for the last two and half years,he has been bringing out a fortnightly in Braille. He has produced several short films on wildlife,which he showcases to students by visiting various schools. The filmmaker has 400 hours of wildlife shoot and more than one lakh wildlife pictures under his belt. Actors sustains injuries Popular film actors Prabhu and Ramarajan sustained minor injuries when a branch of a tamarind tree fell over their car in Erode,while actor-producer-director Thiagarajan escaped unhurt in the incident on September 20. According to police there was strong winds and rain in Anthiyur area on that day. Prabhu,Ramarajan and Thiagarajan were proceeding to Udumelpet from Chennai. When their vehicle reached near Thinnathambipalayam,a branch of the tree fell on their car.
