Designers drew upon an eclectic range of inspiration on Day 4 of the Wills India Fashion Week from baby skeletons to nature.
Ashish N Soni
Cell Therapy
Ashish N Soni donned a lab coat for his Spring-Summer 2013 collection,as he dived into a study of the structures, patterns and colours of the cells in a body.
Titled Cytology: The Micro Lab,the range comprised digital prints of how these cells look under the microscope. There were 2D and 3D blood cell print and even a Vitamin C print,as well as a brain neuron, bacteria and algae mix. Complicated much? Soni used a number of colours such as saffron, ivory, grey, black and cream on pencil skirts, jackets, pantsuits and dresses. Even as we cheer his innovative zeal,we cant deny that his creations grew monotonous after a while.
Kallol Datta
Vanity Insanity
Kallol Datta stuck to his forte abstract styles, asymmetrical hemlines, bulging silhouettes, narrow pants and jackets slit from unusual places. But this time around, motifs such as a babys skeleton picture,a print of a man screaming,Losing my sanity was not part of the plan, and images of bones made an entry in his designs. Dark and edgy, insanity suits Datta.
Aneeth Arora
Check Point
Aneeth Arora drew inspiration from the faithful who congregate at mosques, dressed in lungis and kurtas. Long, white kurtas teamed with striking blue-checked lungis made an appearance on the ramp, alongside summer dresses and shirts with the typical lungi checks. Arora also displayed her signature creations such as frilly sun dresses, shorts and casual shirts with chikankari, crochette and European lace details.
Ranna Gill
Natures Dance
Nature is a great mystery for mankind and Ranna Gills collection,Exotica, attempted to explore just this. An aerial dancer set the mood of the show with risky stunts choreographed to soothing tunes. What followed was a series of highs and lows in Gills range from bold floral cut-outs and geometrical prints that we have seen on the ramp before,to the use of excessive tassels on short dresses to some gorgeous evening gowns in baby pink, red and olive green with knotted backs and sequined shoulder straps. There were also silver, shiny disco pants and the high-waist bell bottoms from the 60s,apart from jumpsuits, kaftans and T-shirts. The colour palette stuck to the theme of nature with shades of green, yellow, blue, pink and white.
