Shivali suicide: Traffic cop,lensmen booked

A week after Shivali Kanghotra 19 ended her life by jumping off a railway overbridge,the Jalandhar police on Thursday registered an FIR against a woman traffic inspector and two mediapersons on abetment to suicide charges.

Traffic Police Inspector Balwinder Kaur and photojournalists Brijesh Kumar and Ravi were booked under Section 306 of the IPC following recommendations by IGP Jalandhar Zone II Gurpreet Deo,who had been asked by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to probe the matter and submit a report. Deo concluded in her report that Shivali committed suicide because she thought there was no way to prevent her photographs from being published and aired the next day in the local newspapers and channels.

On August 30,Shivali was photographed by the two journalists called by Inspector Balwinder Kaur after after the car in which the teenager and her friend Gaurav were travelling in hit another one near a police checkpost in Jalandhar.
