Session: With Brinda letter to PC,CPM distances itself from BJP

The earlier investigations, the public statements of agencies wrongly accusing the Muslim youth of the bomb blasts.

After making it clear that it would not disrupt Parliaments Budget session with its demand for a JPC,the CPM on Sunday gave yet another signal of distancing itself from the BJP,with senior party leader Brinda Karat writing to Home Minister P Chidambaram to seek the release of jailed Muslim youths in connection with bomb blasts.

The earlier investigations, the public statements of agencies wrongly accusing the Muslim youth of the bomb blasts, their torture and incarceration have brought no credit to the investigations,or for that matter to the government which appeared to have gone along with the speculative theories floated by the investigating agencies, Karat wrote, speaking about the plight of Muslim youths incarcerated in connection with Malegaon,Mecca Masjid,Samjhauta Express and Ajmer blasts. The confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand, she pointed out,had further exposed the diabolical role of the Hindutva groups in planning and executing the bomb blasts.

Karat argued that instead of freeing the Muslim youths, the CBI,which was dealing with some of the cases, was opposing their bail pleas. At least now justice must be done to those falsely accused. Those still in jail should be released without any delay in these specific cases. The Central government must also give them compensation and ensure their rehabilitation, she said.

With the Muslim votebank on mind as Assembly elections are around the corner in Kerala and West Bengal, the Left has also been demanding a hike in salaries of Imams.
