Expressing displeasure over the delay in taking a stand on compensation for violence-affected people in Kishtwar, the Supreme Court Monday reminded the state government that Jammu and Kashmir was part of the country, and discrimination among citizens was not permissible.

Jamp;K is part of our country. Why this discrimination? Delay on your part will give a wrong message to the others. We want to know what do you have to say on this, said a Bench of Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam and Justice Ranjana P Desai.

As the Bench took up the matter, the states counsel requested for two weeks to explain their policy on deciding compensation separately for state subjects and non-state subjects falling victim to riots or other incidents.
