The village is approximately 16 km away from Tirurangadi town,in Malappuram district,Kerala,surrounded on three sides by backwaters. It is unique for an inexplicable genetic phenomenon of abnormally large number of twins,six times more than the global average. Scientists and other experts dont have answers,just yet. Ayub PP,headmaster of the IEC Secondary School says two students,a pair of twins themselves,Saleena and Samira,started research on this unusual trend,with help from locals. Later,people came together to form Twins And Kins Association (TAKA) to unite and anchor siblings in the village. Bhaskaran Pullani,president,TAKA,says according to the latest figures,there are over 300 pairs of twins from seven wards in Kodinhi and the numbers are growing every year. Women who have come from nearby villages and have settled here,have also given birth to twins. However,among the NRIs who belong to the village,there are fewer cases of twin births. A couple from Kodinhi,who hadnt had children in 24 years of their marriage,recently had triplets. I wont attempt to say there is any genetic reason for this mysterious phenomenon nor have scientists been able to reveal anything reliable,but I will say there is something unique about this land.
