Days after a man was admitted with stab injuries at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Delhi, it has come to light that he was assaulted for allegedly sexually abusing a minor boy, police said.
On the night of January 2, New Ashok Nagar police was informed by the hospital about Jay Prakash (32), a resident of Old Kondli, being admitted with injuries. Prakash was later referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Doctors noted incised wounds on his abdomen and middle back, said police. A case of attempt to murder of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.
DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania said Prakash remained largely non-cooperative, providing little assistance in identifying the place of occurrence. Consequently, police scrutinised around 150 CCTV cameras.
“CCTV footage from Kondli Pul revealed the victim riding a bicycle towards Nehar Road in Dallupura, with a minor boy, wearing a green jacket, seated as pillion. About 23 minutes later, the victim was seen returning alone towards Kondli Mor, visibly injured. Subsequently, the same boy was noticed running behind the bicycle and later dropping a small duffle bag near Raj Rani Hospital, where the injured victim also managed to reach,” the DCP added.
Police said the boy was picked up and questioned in the presence of his parents. Initially, he allegedly claimed that Jay Prakash was his private tutor and that an unknown assailant had robbed and stabbed him. However, inconsistencies in his account led police to intensify local intelligence gathering, which pointed to Devraj, another resident of Kondli.
“A raid was conducted, and Devraj was apprehended from his residence. During questioning, he confessed to having planned and executed the robbery-cum-stabbing incident in connivance with the minor,” the DCP said.
“He said Jay Prakash had allegedly been sexually abusing the minor, which led to resentment and revenge. To mask the assault, a robbery was planned at a secluded stretch of Nala Road. The accused stabbed the victim and robbed his mobile phone and cash. The minor also later admitted to his role,” he added.
Based on the minor’s statement, a separate FIR under Section 8 (sexual assault of a child) of the POCSO Act and Section 75 (sexual harassment) of BNS was registered against Jay Prakash.
