Remembering R.D. Burman

A musical tribute was paid to music maestro R.D.Burman on his 71st birthday by music troupe The 5th Note. In the maiden program titled Pancham 8211; Hits Of R. D. Burman,held at Ravindra Natya Mandir,an ensemble of evergreen hits like O majhi re Khushboo,Meethe bole bole Kinara,Tere bina jiya jaye na Ghar,Ae ri pawan Bemisaal,Aayo kahan se ghansham Buddha Mil Gaya,Daiyya yeh main kahan aa phasi Caravan,Tum aa gaye ho Aandhi,Hum tum gum sum Humshakal,Sapna mera toot gaya Khel Khel Mein,Pyar hamen kis mod pe Satte Pe Satta. Singer Sagar Sawarkar sang Aao aao sawariyan from Padosan with tremendous zest and feel. The other singers were Dhaarna,Saurabh Srivatsav and Shibani Das. One of the highlights of the evening was a song by Sairam Iyer,who is known for singing in dual voices. There was a roar of applause when he sang Asha Bhosles hit numbers like Mere naam hai shabnam Kati Patang,Hai agar dushman Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin and Meri jaan maine kahan The Train.

The singers were supported by a team of 18 musicians. The programme was conceived and designed by Anupam Ghatak,well-known percussionist,while Sandeep Panchwatkar anchored the show. The entire event was managed by Rajesh Subramanian and Krishnan Iyer of Musicolor.
