The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission has intervened in a complaint of harassment filed by an employee of the Obulapuram Mining Corporation, owned by state minister and mining baron G Janardhan Reddy, and has asked Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to initiate a probe by the state CID.

Based on a complaint filed by V Anjaneyulu, deputy general manager at OMC,of threat to his life and poor response from the Bellary district police, the KSHRC has also asked the state to transfer the Superintendent of Police,Bellary.

Anjaneyulu,61,a certified class I mines manager, has accused the managing director of OMC,B V Srinivas Reddy,of threatening and harassing him when he asked why mining-related documents were removed from the site office of the OMC at AGK mines in Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh,a month ago.

The site office was demolished overnight and all documents were moved out. When I questioned this in the light of the ongoing CBI probe, where I would be answerable for the documents, the managing director threatened me. The Bellary police did not heed to my complaints,so I had to write to the SHRC and others, Anjaneyulu said.

According to Anjaneyulu, his wife was asked to report to the OMC office to meet the MD and was not allowed to leave until after midnight.

If what is stated in the written statement is true, then the Bellary district police and the officers and staff of OMC concerned are undeniably guilty of committing serious, heinous violations of human rights of the complainant and his wife, the SHRC observed.
