Prachanda attends PLA foundation ceremony

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda attended the eighth foundation ceremony of the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army,refusing to take President Ram Baran Yadav’s advice against attending the function.

Not only did Prachanda attend the ceremony,he also took with him the chairperson of the Arms and Army Monitoring Committee under the UN mission,Edwardo Boleri,as special guest.

Prachanda,however,clarified that he attended the PLA function not as its supreme commander but as the Prime Minister and head of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (CPN-M).

On the occasion,Prachanda announced that the PLA will not function under the party directive any more. It will be answerable to the Special Committee responsible for motoring,control and rehabilitation of the PLA headed by Prachanda.

After being elected Prime Minister,Prachanda had resigned as supreme commander of the PLA. However,Thursday’s announcement once again made him the head of PLA. He also told the PLA to be patient,assuring them that their integration in the Nepal Army would begin soon.
