There are 271 Jan Shikshan Sansthans or JSSs in the country to help boost education programmes in the districts and 215 of them came up after 2000. At least 52 of these bodies were given to NGOs linked to politicians,mostly in the BJP and Congress,indicating that a significant chunk of the programme was converted into political largesse by both parties when they were in power. The following is the list of these NGOs:
