Polavaram: Rosaiah to meet Jairam

The state government will reply to the show-cause notice issued by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests MoEF on the Polavaram Dam project.

The state government will reply to the show-cause notice issued by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests MoEF on the Polavaram Dam project after finding out if there were any lapses as stated in the notice.

Officials in the Chief Ministers Office on Tuesday said that state Environment and Forests Minister P Ramachandra Reddy would first meet Union Minister Jairam Ramesh and discuss the project after which the government would draft a reply.

We still have time. We have to look into several aspects before a reply is drafted, a top official said.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who is in New Delhi to attend the AICC meeting,is expected to meet Jairam Ramesh and discuss the issue. We will give an appropriate reply to the letter written to the state government by the Centre, Rosaiah said after attending the AICC session.

The MoEF has sought an explanation from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly starting work at the Polavaram Dam site without getting requisite clearances. In its letter, the ministry asked the state to reply within 10 days why a public hearing on the project in Orissa and Chhattisgarh, which was given green nod in 2005,has not been held.
