An NGO has petitioned the Supreme Court,seeking guidelines for allocation of spectrum to TV channels as non-adherence to the policy of auction has caused a loss of around Rs 1,56,500 crore to the nation in the past 10 years.
In its PIL,Peoples Union for Civil Liberties,alleged that TV news channels have been granted licences on first-come-first-serve basis in violation of the principles relating to public property,which includes spectrum,laid down by the SC.
The PIL will be heard by a Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly,which is also hearing cases of the 2G spectrum scam.
