Two suspected Pakistani spies escaped from police custody early on Wednesday near Dausa in Rajasthan. Pakistan nationals Adil Anjum and Abdul Sakur Hafiz Abdul Rehman fled from the custody of the Gujarat Police when they were being taken back to Lucknow after investigations in Rajkot. Though the Dausa police managed to nab one of them a few hours later, combing operations are still on across Dausa and neighbouring districts to nab the other. The UP Polices Special Task Force had arrested the duo in Lucknow in December 2006 along with classified papers and fake Indian documents.
Jaipur police officials said the men escaped using a spare key, which they found conveniently kept in the van taking them,to open their handcuffs. Senior police officials in Rajkot said action would be taken against the four-member escort team.
Dausa SP Nissar Ahmed Farukhi confirmed that Rehman had been apprehended and the hunt was on for his accomplice. We have cordoned off the entire district and combing operations have commenced across the district, he said.
According to the police, the two entered India from Nepal in 2005 and lived in Kutch-Gandhidham,Anjar and Bhuj areas.
