Kayani extension challenged

The Pakistan governments decision to give a three-year extension to army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was challenged in the Peshawar High Court Tuesday. Shahid Orakzai,a lawyer,filed the petition challenging the extension on the basis that it violates the Constitution.

The Pakistan government has sought to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997,to bring in stricter provisions for prosecution and punishment. Interior Minister Rehman Malik moved the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill 2010 in the Senate,the upper house of Pakistans parliament.
