Army touts victory over Taliban in stronghold:

The Pakistani Army declared victory Tuesday over the Taliban in one of their strongholds in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan,saying the military operation in that region is finished. The Army said civilians who have fled Orakzai could expect to return home soon. The announcement was part of a military statement describing a visit to Orakzai and neighbouring Kurram tribal regions by the Army chief,Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The Army has previously declared success in other trouble spots only to see militants regroup and resurge.

Trade,defence on mind,Gilani travels to Europe: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday embarked on an official visit to Belgium and Spain,saying Pakistan will seek further strengthening of ties with the EU in key areas like trade and defence. Gilani said at the Chaklala military airbase before his departure that he would hold talks with the European Union and Spanish leadership to promote economic,defence and cultural relations.
