Over 200 projects delayed over land,Maoist issues

Over 200 central infrastructure projects have been delayed as on February 1,2012,due to issues like land acquisition,maoist problem and environmental clearances.

Over 200 central infrastructure projects have been delayed as on February 1,2012,due to issues like land acquisition,maoist problem and environmental clearances.

“As on February 1,2012,out of 555 central sector infrastructure projects costing Rs 150 crore and above,233 projects were delayed with respect to their original day of completion,” Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

The factors affecting implementation of programmes include land acquisition,maoist problem,law and order problems,delays in engineering designs and forest clearances,he said.

Out of the 233 delayed projects,78 were from the road transport and highways sector,47 from the power sector,31 from the petroleum sector and 27 from railways,among others.

He further said that during the meeting of Prime Minister’s Council of Trade and Industry last year,the members had stressed the need to expedite the ongoing infrastructure and mega projects.
