Omar: Kashmir treated differently

Referring to BJP,Omar said they talk about removing Article 370 and integrating state with rest of country.

Angry over the comments and reactions made by some leaders on the Kishtwar issue,Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah blamed them for trying to alienate people of Kashmir.

After unfurling the Tricolour at the Bakshi Stadium where Independence day celebrations was held,Omar said: They ask me why people in Kashmir are always away from mainstream,I used to think about this and the answer is difficult. But the recent incident of Kishtwar has given the answer. It is you who makes us different. Your treatment towards us is different.

Referring to the BJP,Omar said they talk about removing Article 370 and integrating the state with the rest of country. With this kind of different and biased attitude towards us how is the integration possible. Integration can never be possible by removing Articles, he said. The CM said some leaders are trying to turn small issues into big ones.

I have figures as to how many communal acts have taken place this year and last in Rajasthan,West Bengal,Bihar,Gujarat ,Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Why did these big leaders not go there and made those into issues. Why only make issue out of small things from Kashmir alone, he questioned.

Omar said the incidents of communal violence in other states had not led to a national-level debate in the Parliament or generated headlines in newspapers. Kashmiris feel separate and alienated as they are being treated differently.

However,he praised the people of Kashmir for not letting communal trouble take a serious shape. I salute the people who defeated those elements that wanted communal tensions to spread across the state, the CM said, adding that it was unfortunate that the incident took place in his rule.

I-day celebrations in Kashmir passed off peacefully.
