The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI on Thursday made three more arrests in connection with the multi-crore NRHM scam. Those arrested includes an engineer of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and two persons from private companies. The agency has sought the remand of the three from a Ghaziabad court.
Refusing to divulge the names of those arrested,a CBI spokesperson in New Delhi said: We have made three arrests and they are crucial to our investigations. Their names cannot be divulged.
The arrests followed the questioning of two bureaucrats and a trader,who were held in connection with the alleged irregularities in utilisation of funds allocated under the National Rural Health Mission NRHM. The three were arrested after they were called for questioning in connection with the scam.
The agency had on January 2 registered five cases against government and private sector officials,including one against then UP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha,alleging loss of about Rs 28 crore in implementing the Centrally-sponsored scheme meant for 72 UP districts. Kushwaha was sacked by Chief Minister Mayawati over his alleged involvement in the scam.
NRHM funds to the tune of about Rs 10,000 crore were allocated to UP for the period 2005-06 till date by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
