The state Congress is planning to hold rallies to be addressed by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in western, central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh in February or March, after completing the partys membership drive. So far,Rahuls visits to the state have been largely confined to his constituency,Amethi,or Bundelkhand. The idea is to send out a message that he is also interested in other parts of the UP.
We are preparing the programme in such a manner that Rahuls presence is seen in different parts of the state. At least one rally each will be held in western, eastern and central UP, informed Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the state party president. The probable places are Bareilly,Gorakhpur,Gonda and Bahraich.
Explaining why the rallies will be held in February or March, she said,Entire January will be taken up by the membership drive. From April, our organisational elections will begin.
According to the schedule,January 15 is the last date to submit membership forms at the state-level. This will be followed by scrutiny and the final list of members will be published on March 25. Between April 1 and April 30,the UPCC will complete the election of primary committees at booth-level.
Besides the rallies,a meeting of the co-ordination committee meeting, which is the highest decision-making body of the party,is being planned at other places.
